Our sports facilities include well-equipped indoor and outdoor spaces that cater to various sporting disciplines. Our newly refurbished sports hall accommodates activities such as basketball, netball, and volleyball. It provides a versatile space for students to engage in team sports, develop their skills, and compete in friendly matches.

Overlooking our sports hall, our Strength and Conditioning Studio provides a state-of-the-art facility where students can enhance their strength, power, endurance, and overall fitness. Equipped with a wide range of specialised strength and conditioning equipment, our studio offers students the opportunity to engage in targeted workouts tailored to their individual needs and goals. From free weights and weightlifting platforms to resistance machines and cardio equipment, our facility provides a comprehensive range of tools to support various training methods and exercise programs.

For outdoor sports, we offer expansive playing fields and courts that provide ample space for soccer, cricket, tennis, and other outdoor activities. These well-maintained grounds offer a safe and inviting space for students to participate in individual and team sports, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for physical activity.

Changing The Game For Girls In Sport

In addition to participating in the Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) and School Sport Victoria (SSV) Competitions, St Catherine’s is proud to also offer a number of dedicated sporting programs to students; St Catherine’s Rowing Club, Aquatics Program, Snowsports program, Athletics program, Athlete Development Academy. These provide opportunities for students to enjoy sport while training with expert coaches and within state-of-the-art facilities.

St Catherine’s School Sport Philosophy

The sports program provides a specific framework, building skills and confidence to scaffold their learning, nurturing the development of the whole individual.

  • Stage 1- Participate and explore – offers the opportunity for our students to sample different programs and opportunities; to engage in a variety of sporting pursuits.
  • Stage 2- Acquire and perform – presents experiences for students to achieve and succeed in sport, by acquiring and developing skills through practice.
  • Stage 3- Excel– As skills are developed in an area of interest, students are provided with pathways to Excel.

St Catherine’s highly encourages sport as an important part of every student’s well-balanced weekly routine to foster overall wellbeing. Our extensive sporting program aims to provide athleticism through fitness, expertise, confidence and enjoyment in all areas of sport. Through a range of different programs and pathways, it provides students of all ability levels with an opportunity for both participation and performance, and fosters friendships and School spirit amongst students, coaches and parents.

Interschool Sport

St Catherine’s School is an inaugural member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV),and played an integral part in its formation in 2001.

One of the largest independent school sporting associations in Victoria, GSV aims to promote the benefits of lifelong involvement in sport, positive attitudes to women’s health and has a strong ethic of encouraging good sporting behaviour.

With a membership of 24 Independent girls’ schools from across the State, GSV provides a high level sporting competition for students in Years 5 to 12.

Junior Sport

In the Junior School, students participate in a range of interschool sport competitions against members of the Armadale District in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Competition. A number of Sporting Co-curricular opportunities are available to students from Prep to Year 6 including:

Junior students who meet the selection criteria may also join the School’s Snowsports, Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country and Diving squads.

House Sport

House Sport is a lively and spirited part of our Sports program. Complementing the Interschool Sports program, the House system provides both Senior and Junior students an opportunity to try their hand at a large range of sports and enjoy the friendly rivalry between Houses.
