Coastal Systems Fieldwork
A part of the Year 8 Geography curriculum is the focus on coastal systems.
Students travelled with their Geography teacher and Mr Cross to St Kilda beach where they participated in a fieldwork activity to learn more about these systems.
The focus of the unit of work was coastal processes, wave action and management strategies. By visiting the beach, students were able to make observations, collect data and develop a firsthand understanding of the components that make up a beach and the processes that operate along the coast.
Students then used their skills of drawing field sketches and cross sections, data collection and observation. In the classroom students will use the data collected as well as photographs and maps to complete several assessment tasks.
