ELC Update – Learn@Home
It has been wonderful to see the children’s learning over the past week as they have engaged in a range of experiences remotely.
The children in Waratah Room have been engaged in a ‘Kindness Project’. They have discussed and explored what kindness means and how it can be enacted. The children have also shared Indigenous stories and are exploring Indigenous symbols. Recycled materials and cardboard boxes have inspired the children’s creativity as they use these materials to plan, design and construct. Outdoors, the children have engaged in bird watching and have used the Field Guide app to research the birds they have observed.
The concept of feelings and emotions is currently being explored by the children in the Blue Gum Room. The children are also exploring the concept of kindness and have written letters or drawn pictures for their friends. They have also been busily engaged in learning in relation to bugs and insects, taking their research outdoors into the garden. Healthy eating has also been a topic of discussion as the children explore the concept of eating the colours of the rainbow.
Our Wattle Room learners have been busily engaged in an inquiry into Australian animals. They have been using books and the iPad to research their favourite Australian animal. The children have also been exploring the medium of paper, using their creativity to manipulate and invent with paper. Literacy and numeracy have also been a focus as the children explored letters and words and engaged in a range of counting, classification and addition experiences.
The Banksia Room children have been actively researching nocturnal animals. In connection with this, they have also engaged in a science experiment to explore the concept of night and day. The children have also been exploring a ‘letter of the day’, brainstorming words associated with the letter and creating digital images to represent the word. Mathematics has also been a focus as the children have engaged in sorting, organising and classifying experiences with a range of materials.
There are a range of opportunities on offer in the ELC Learn@Home program which children and families are encouraged to access. Please refer to your child’s classroom portal page for the selection of experiences on offer.
