Student VOICES – From our STEM Captain
What do you hope to accomplish in your role as Captain this year?
I hope to encourage more girls to learn about STEM and provide as much support as I can to help them pursue their interest in STEM fields.
I also want to provide support to girls who are interested in fields such as Computer Science when it may be hard for them to figure out what to learn about, and where to find related resources.
What are the key responsibilities of your captaincy role?
My responsibility is to inspire girls to learn about STEM through organising science activities, such as STEM Club and Science Week.
What is one word that best describes the kind of leader you would like to be?
I would like to be an inspiring leader – to inspire girls to step into the STEM field.
Describe the most enjoyable aspect of being part of St Catherine’s Co-curricular activities?
Being able to meet like-minded people is the most enjoyable part of Co-curricular activities. Most of my friends are not interested in STEM as much as I am, so Co-curricular activities help bring people interested in STEM together to discuss topics we are interested in.
What is one quality a good leader needs to have?
A good leader needs to be actively listening to suggestions and comments. Listening to people’s advice can help the leader to review what they have achieved so far from other people’s points of view. Based on these, the leader can improve their leadership skills and plans.
What is one thing you would like to take from the experience of being a Captain once you graduate from St Catherine’s?
I would like to take the experience of leading others to help organise events at School.
Is there anything you would like to add?
We need more women in STEM – do not hesitate if you are interested in STEM!
