Our Year 6 debaters have now completed their pre-season Debating Boot Camp.

This involved training workshops that covered the rules and procedures of Debating, including:

• How a debate is scored
• How to research their arguments
• How to prepare the team line and split and anticipate rebuttals.

We were extremely fortunate to have School Co-Captains, senior debaters, and former Year 10 Debating Coaches, Madeline Powell and Angela Yu as guest speakers.

Interviewed by Junior School Captains and Year 6 debaters, Holly Farrer and Clara Barry, Maddie and Angela spoke about why they enjoy Debating, what they have learned through Debating, and gave the Year 6s their top tips for winning a debate.

The girls also shared what it feels like going into a debate when you are sure you have got the opposition covered, and then have the result go the other way.

The reflections from our School Captains, along with the Boot Camp and our preparations throughout Term 1, will ensure our Year 6 debaters are ready for the competitive rounds of debating commencing next term.
