St Catherine’s Snowsports Team wowed at the National Interschool Snowsports Championships in Perisher, NSW! 

After an extremely impressive Victorian Interschools campaign, we had a total of 24 students across all disciplines and ages make their way to Perisher for the National Championships.  

With what might be one of our smallest Snowsports Teams in a while, our competitors did not disappoint. St Catherine’s Junior School is officially the Australian Primary Girls School Champions! Our Senior School, despite not having any Year 11s or 12s competing, was able to finish an incredible second place behind Sydney school, Wenona. Congratulations to all our competitors! 

Day one of the Championships began with our Division 6 Alpine Team. With only three members there was no room for error on the challenging front valley dual course. A learning experience for all with many of the junior competitors at Nationals for their first time. Division 5 extraordinaire and all-rounder Avalon Pascoe continued her exceptional results finishing eighth in the XC Classic, ninth in the Alpine and tenth in the Snowboard GS.  

Friday 9 September was the big day for St Catherine’s. We were six points behind Melbourne Girls’ Grammar for the Best Primary Girls School in Australia. Despite the rain and cold weather, with resilience and determination our Cross-Country Team were able to perform some exceptional results.  

St Catherine’s Division 4 girls proved to be too strong as their teams won the Classic (Camilla Aberdeen, Isabella Wilkins, and Annika Gill) and Skate Relay (Coco Thomas, Isabella Wilkins and Camilla Aberdeen). Every point and member of each team played a vital role in the Junior School securing the Overall Primary Girls Championship.  

The Senior School competitors began competition on the Friday with many competing in the Cross-Country events in the morning (a very big day for all these girls!). With some quick, and at times dangerous courses, all Senior School competitors represented St Catherine’s with a smile on their face all weekend long.

• Division 3 Moguls: 7th Place – Kayleigh Yap 
• Division 5 Snowboard GS: 10th Place – Avalon Pascoe 

A huge thank you to all families and students who made the effort (and the eight-hour drive) to get to Perisher. We could not have achieved some of the incredible results without competitors and volunteers.
