Drama
Play your part! From Junior Year levels through to Year 12, all students have the opportunity to take to the stage.
Each year, students have the opportunity to participate in a School production.
Our co-curricular Drama performance opportunities rotate every year. Our Senior and Middle School productions alternate between a large-scale musical and a play.
Senior Drama Club, the Year 3 & Year 4 co-curricular Drama groups and classroom Drama and Theatre Studies are offered year-round.
We always finish the year with our famous ‘House Arts’ evening, which involves all students in Years 7 to 11 creating and presenting a performance based on a particular stimulus.
Every even year we stage:
- Senior Musical: for Years 10-12 (T2)
- Middle School Play: for Years 7-9 (T4)
- VCE performances: ensembles, solos and monologues
- Year 3 Stage Skills and Year 4 Perform Program: Semester Performance (T2 and T4)
- Year 9 & 10 Plays: Elective Drama Class plays (T2 and T4)
- House Arts Competition (T4)
Every odd year we stage:
- Senior Play: for Years 10-12 (T2)
- VCE performances: ensembles, solos and monologues
- Year 9 & 10 Plays: Elective Drama Class plays (T2 and T4)
- Middle Years Musical: for Years 7-9 (T4)
- Year 3 Stage Skills and Year 4 Perform Program: Semester Performance (T2 and T4)
- Junior Musical: for Years 5-6 (T2)
- House Arts Competition (T4)
Students are central to all areas of our productions, having the ability to help design and create the set, costumes, make-up, properties, sound and lighting. The backstage and technical teams are comprised of students who learn the responsibilities and skills involved in running these areas throughout the rehearsal and development process.
The Speech and Drama program is also available for students from Years 5 to 12. It aims to develop performance, interpretative and communicative skills whilst extending students’ literary background. A wide range of prose, verse and drama scripts is explored, along with storytelling, talks, discussion, mime, improvisation and dramatic characterisations. Students participate in Eisteddfods throughout the year, and undertake an accredited examination under the Trinity College London Speech and Drama syllabus at the end of the year, which sees them progress through a grading system.
